I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

— Isaiah 43:19

We often see the desert as a barren, lifeless place — just as we might view the times in our lives when everything feels empty and stagnant. Yet, deserts hold a secret: they teem with life hidden beneath the surface. Seeds wait for the right conditions, seemingly lifeless but ready to burst into bloom when the rains come. Similarly, when we stand in the wilderness of our own lives, surrounded by silence and uncertainty, we are often standing on the edge of something profound.

The emptiness we dread can actually be a fertile ground for new growth. It is here, in the quiet spaces of the soul, that potential lies dormant, waiting for us to make space for it to emerge. If we can sit with the discomfort of not knowing and allow ourselves to soften, the desert becomes not a place of isolation but a place of possibility. The desert strips away the noise, the clutter, and the expectations. What remains is raw potential — untapped creativity, new perspectives, and spiritual renewal.

In the desert, we confront the void, but it is in this very void that we can find the seeds of transformation, the opportunity to look beyond what we thought was possible.

Journaling Prompt: Where in your life do you feel a sense of emptiness or stagnation? What might be waiting to emerge from this space, if only you allowed it to surface?
