Trasfigurazione di Cristo – Raphael [1516-1520]
Trasfigurazione di Cristo – Raphael [1516-1520]

And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

— Matthew 17:2

Becoming Who You Truly Are

On this beautiful Full Moon in Libra, we have reached the last entry, the end of these 40 days dedicated to Lent, Jungian reflections and inspirations from the Lotus Sutra. How are you?

After the solitude, the wilderness, the shadows and storms, the betrayals and awakenings — there is light. Not an escape, not a denial of suffering, but something radiant because of it. The Transfiguration is not just a divine event — it is the moment when everything hidden is revealed in wholeness. It is the moment when Christ’s full nature, both human and divine, is made visible.

This is not the glory of ego, but of the integrated Self. In Jungian terms, this is the moment of individuation fully realised — the bringing together of all aspects of the psyche: the shadow, the child, the divine, the wound. The mountain is a symbol of ascent, of perspective. But the light comes after the descent into darkness.

The disciples are dazzled, confused, overwhelmed. As we so often are by our own transformation. But notice: Jesus does not stay on the mountain. He descends. He returns to the people. The point of illumination is not escape — it is embodiment. Transfiguration is not transcendence from the world, but through it.

Raphael’s painting captures this perfectly: the floating Christ at the top, luminous and serene — yet beneath him, the chaos of human life continues. Illness, confusion, desperation. The two worlds are not separate; they are part of one movement. We are not called to remain in rarefied light, but to bring it back with us — to carry the mountaintop into the village.

The Lotus Sutra tells us that enlightenment is not reserved for the few, nor for the next life — it is always available, in this body, in this very moment. You have walked the 40 days. You have entered the wilderness and emerged. This is not the end of the story — it is the turning point. The path ahead may still wind, but you now walk it transfigured, with your own face shining like the sun.

You do not need to know exactly what comes next. You need only to trust the light that has awakened within you — and to walk with it, gently, boldly, into the world.

Thank you for travelling these 40 days with me.

Journaling Prompt: What has been transfigured within you through these reflections, this inner journey? What new light are you carrying — and how will you bring it back down the mountain, into the everyday world around you?
